Which Adjustable Ball Mount Will Work With 2" And 2-5/16" Couplers On RAM 2500 2-1/2" Receiver

Published 06/23/2026

Question:

I drive a Ram 2500 with the 2-1/2" factory hitch and tow a dump trailer, a car hauler, and sometimes a boat. Should I use the 4-1/2" drop Fastway or the 7-1/2" drop one? Or is it okay to have trailer a bit uneven? thanks!

Hey Martin, it depends on the height of your truck hitch and the trailer coupler, but for your Ram 2500 with a 2-1/2" receiver, you’d be looking at either the Fastway Flash Force # FA43FR or # FA63FR. Both are built for a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" hitch receiver, both include 2" and 2-5/16" balls, and both are rated up to 8,000 lbs on the 2" ball or 18,000 lbs on the 2-5/16" ball.

If your Ram is stock height and most of your trailers already sit close to level, I’d start with the # FA43FR. It gives you up to 4-1/2" of drop or rise, which is usually the cleaner choice when you don’t need a lot of extra drop hanging below the truck.

If your Ram sits taller, your trailers sit nose-high now, or you’re towing lower coupler trailers like some equipment, dump, or boat trailers, then I’d move up to the # FA63FR. That one gives you up to 7-1/2" of drop or rise, so you have more room to get the trailer level.

That level towing part matters more than most people think. A trailer that rides too nose-high or nose-low can affect stability, braking, and tire wear, so the goal is to choose the shortest drop range that still lets your trailer sit level. Grab the receiver height and coupler height on level ground, and compare it to what these offer. I'm here to help if you need me!
