Boat Trailer Brake Assembly Recommendation for a 3500 UFP Axles

Published 07/17/2014

Question:

I have a boat trailer with 3500 lbs. UFP axles said to have a 10inch x 2-1/4inch hydraulic brake assembly. The actual width of the existing brake shoes is 1-3/4, the inside drum diameter is 10, inside drum depth is 2-1/2, the mounting hole pattern is 4 x 2-7/8, 3inch center hole, 5 bolt drum/wheel pattern and 13inch rims. Are part numbers 18787 and 18788 the correct assemblies for this installation? My immediate concerns are the actual width of the brake shoes your video implies its the full 2-1/4 and the mounting hole pattern your description says 4 x 4. Can you clarify?

Yes, the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly # 18787 would be the correct assembly for the right hand side of your trailer and the part # 18788 would be the correct assembly for the left hand side of the trailer.

If your current brake assemblies only have a 1-3/4 inch width they are not fully utilizing the 2-1/2 inches of drum width that you measured. The bolt pattern of the flange is also the same as what you have. Check out the picture I attached to see these measurements.

These assemblies also have a 3,500 lb capacity like you said you need.
