Can A Tri-Fold Cover Stay On While Towing A 5th Wheel With A Ford F250 Short Bed?

Question:

I have a f250 with a 6’10 bed and a tri-fold bed cover. Will this system allow me to keep the cover on, folded up to the rear panel

Hey Derrick, thanks for reaching out. As long as your tri-fold cover sits completely on top of the bed rails and doesn't have rails or hardware hanging down into the bed, you should be able to leave it installed with the PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch #PUL73RR in place. The bigger question is how the cover stores when it's opened for towing.

If the cover folds all the way up against the cab, that's typically the best-case scenario and usually avoids interference with the hitch. If you're talking about towing with the rear panel folded over but not fully upright against the cab, clearance can get pretty tight depending on the cover design and where the folded panels end up in relation to the hitch head. Unfortunately, that's not something I can guarantee without measurements. If you can measure from the rear edge of the folded cover to the center of the rear puck, that would give us a much better idea of how much room you'll have. The hitch itself shouldn't force you to remove the cover, but I'd want to verify folded-cover clearance before saying you'll be able to tow with it partially folded.

What tri-fold cover do you have specifically?

I have a f250 with a 6’10” bed. I have the bakflip mx4 bed cover. I fold it up against the cab. My rv is a Columbus and is 101” wide. If I turn sharp it will rub the cover.
