Are There Base Plates that Will Fit a 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison?
Updated 06/19/2026 | Published 06/17/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison. It comes with the special front bumper, not the standard ZR2 bumper. I’m looking to flat tow it. The regular Chevy kit won’t work. Is there an option for my truck? If so part numbers I’ll need for an install. Thank you.

Hi Frank,
Because of the AEV steel front bumper that comes with the Bison, base plates don't line up correctly with this bumper's configuration. There used to be a Roadmaster base plate kit that worked with the Bison, but they have since come out and said that it isn't a fit for the Bison bumper. I checked into Blue Ox, Demco, and etrailer base plates as well, but unfortunately none of them will work with the Bison model.
The best option to tow your 2020 Chevy Colorado Bison would be to tow it on its own trailer behind your motorhome, if your motorhome has a high enough towing capacity for the weight of the truck and trailer. Chevy doesn't recommend dolly towing (2 wheels up) because it could cause damage to the drivetrain.
