Availability Of Replacement Hitch Tightener Knob For Thule T2 PRO XTR Bike Rack

Updated 06/19/2026 | Published 06/17/2026

Question:

Hello I just bought a Thule T2 PRO XTR off of facebook. I didnt know that you couldnt get a replacement part for the speedknob.... It still has the tightening mechanism, it should still work right? Any way I can get a tool for the knob so I can turn it easier? I have been using a Vise grip. TY

Hey Yoon, thanks for reaching out. Yes, your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV will still work without the hitch tightening knob, but the rack might be a bit loose in the hitch, or at the very least it will be much harder to tighten. Unfortunately, Thule does not offer a replacement knob for this. The only way to replace that portion would be to replace the entire lower assembly with part # TH37MY.

We don't carry a tool specifically for this either, so your best bet will be continuing to use the vice grip or similar tool to tighten the rack into the hitch. There is no "by the book" workaround for this I'm afraid.

Did you get a good deal on the rack? What kind of bikes do you have?
