Question:

Hello, I pulled my new camper for the first time using my Andersen hitch on Saturday. I hooked everything up and had it level but still felt some sway. I have a 30 ft camper with dry weight of about 6000 lbs. I have a 2026 F250 so I have plenty of truck. What should I try to help with sway control. Thanks!

Hey Don, sorry to hear that you are still experiencing sway even with your Andersen WD system. There's a couple things to check first though. Make sure you have as much weight forward in your trailer as possible as not enough tongue weight relative to total trailer weight is the biggest thing that causes sway.

Next make sure the trailer is sitting totally level. If nose high that can cause sway pretty easily as well.

Other thing to consider is that the Andersen WD systems like # AN95VR just aren't as effective on heavier trailer as they are on lighter ones.

Now the most effective sway control is the electronic type that will apply the trailer brakes enough to stop the sway whenever it is sensed like with the Tuson part # 335TSC-1000. Does the sway start around like 50 mph?

That Tucson sway control of a life saver I have a 35 foot bumper pull trailer and you can just go it gives you a false sense of security pulling the camper as you can roll Just wonder what the brake shore look like great product instructions f we’re not on good but a couple of hours and they work very

@DwayneK brake shoes are probably still in good shape. It doesn't take much braking action to pull the trailer straight and eliminate the sway.

@JamesonCi just pulled my 35 foot bumper pull travel home with a 25 mph winds and it worked really well It is a great product

I have a 22’ bumper pull that weighs about 5000 lb. On one occasion I had a serious sway incident that almost ended in jackknifing the truck and trailer. I had a Tuson sway control device installed on the trailer in an attempt to avoid a repeat. I’ve pulled the same trailer since then for hundreds of miles with no noticeable sway under all kinds of conditions, uphill and down, strong winds, freeways, heavy traffic , no traffic without incident. The sway control device has worked flawlessly . There’s no way I’ll pull a trailer without it. I also use an Andersen sway control hitch.

I have a 20 foot Yeti fishhouse/camper. Because of the way the frame raises and lowers, traditional sway control bars were not an option. We installed the Tuson anti sway system a few years ago and it’s worked better than expected. When my son was driving down the highway and hit black ice at 65 mph. The system kept the trailer from jackknifing, enabling him to safely bring his truck and the trailer to a stop.
