Can PowerMax AC to DC Converter be Left Connected When Using Solar Charger on Battery As Well

Published 06/11/2026

Question:

I am running a 400W 12V off grid Solar 2560EWh system with a MPPT controller and a 2000W inverter that has 2-100Ah Batteries in a camper van. I want to hook up this AC to DC converter so I am able to charge the batteries when I am at home or at a campsite that has a hook up instead of solely relying on solar. I was wondering how you would hook and run the wires. If I hook the wires up to the batteries directly, could I leave them hooked up at all times or would it be affected with the solar system? To confirm when getting to the campsite or at home all I would have to do is plug the cord into an outlet for it to charge the batteries?

Hey Emily, you can leave the PowerMax AC to DC Converter w/ Built-In 3-2-1 Stage Battery Charger # PM34VR hooked up to your battery when not in use and it won't affect anything. The solar charger you have now would not affect it or vice versa. What all are you powering in your camper van?

I am powering a refrigerator, lights when inside, and chargers, with the occasional use of an air fryer. I’m looking into a roof a/c unit

@Emily right on! For camper vans Velit makes great AC units like the part # VE87QV.
