Question:

I want to flat tow my Jeep Wrangler behind my Class C motorhome. Can you recommend base plates and a good quality tow bar?

Hi Chris! A Jeep Wrangler is one of the most common vehicles people flat tow which is great for you! That said, the right base plate depends on the year of your Wrangler and which front bumper it has.

If your Wrangler can use Roadmaster direct-connect base plates, then I’d pair those with the Ultra-Fab All-Terrain Non-Binding Tow Bar # UF35XR. That tow bar is rated for 8,000 lbs, stores on the motorhome, and has non-binding handles to make disconnecting easier when you’re parked on uneven ground. If you’re building with Blue Ox base plates instead, the comparable 8,000 lb Ultra-Fab tow bar would be # UF55XR.

Both brands of baseplates are popular, so it just depends on what you go with. If you can tell me the year of your Wrangler, I can find the base plates for it. For example, the Blue Ox Base Plates # BX1139 fit select models of the 2018-2026 Wrangler with factory bumpers. This works with the Ultra Fab blue ox edition tow bars. Then the Roadmaster Base Plates # RM-521453-5 fits the same Jeep Wranglers with factory bumpers depending on options.

For most Wrangler setups, the 8,000 lb version will be enough capacity, but if you have a very heavy build with larger tires, aftermarket armor, cargo, or you want more cushion for a future heavier vehicle, you could step up to # UF45XR for Roadmaster base plates or # UF95XR for Blue Ox base plates. Going bigger won't hurt anything. What year Wrangler do you have, Chris, and is the front bumper factory or aftermarket?
