Question:
I already have Roadmaster base plates on my Jeep Wrangler. Which Ultra-Fab tow bar would work best, the 8,000 lb or 12,000 lb version?

Good morning Mike! Since you already have Roadmaster base plates, you’ll want one of the Ultra-Fab tow bars made for Roadmaster base plates. The Ultra-Fab All-Terrain Non-Binding Tow Bar # UF35XR is rated for 8,000 lbs, while # UF45XR is rated for 12,000 lbs.
For most Jeep Wrangler flat tow setups, the 8,000 lb # UF35XR is going to be plenty of capacity, assuming your Wrangler and any cargo stay under that limit. The 12,000 lb # UF45XR would be the better direction if you want extra capacity for a heavier towed vehicle now or you think you may switch to a larger truck or SUV later. Going bigger won't hurt anything.
One thing to check is which style of Roadmaster base plate you have. If it’s a direct-connect style, the tow bar can connect to the removable arms. If it’s an older crossbar-style Roadmaster base plate, you’ll need the quick-disconnect crossbar assembly, part # 910021-00, sold separately. What year Wrangler are you setting up, Mike?
