Which Cargo Carrier Is Best For The Back Of A 5th Wheel Camper? Curt C18151 Or C18152?

Updated 06/09/2026 | Published 06/01/2026

Question:

Im looking for a 2 hitch cargo carrier for the 2 receiver on the rear of our 31 5th wheel rv. In comparing the C18151 vs the C18152, which shaft is likely to handle the rough bouncing best? If there is another option that has a much stronger shaft, please advise. Thank you.

Hey Kevin, thanks for reaching out, and good question. Between the Curt Cargo Carriers # C18151 and # C18152 the one that will handle the rough bouncing the best is the # C18152. Reason being this is a fixed (non-tilting) carrier with a one-piece shank and backbone assembly. Since it's all one piece there are fewer moving parts so less potential for movement and rattling. It will be more sturdy and secure on the back of your RV.

The tilting carrier # C18151 has a 2-piece shank/backbone so it would likely rattle and move around a bit more. I'd always lean towards a fixed carrier for RV use.

What will you be carrying back there?

Thanks Jesse. Primary heavy needs are for large coolers or two suitcase generators. Other potential uses are for bikes or large but lighter, over-sized items. Doubt total weight will ever exceed 250 pounds.

@KevinC Ok nice 250 lbs will be no problem. The carrier itself can hold up to 500 lbs, but the hitch on your RV also has a max tongue weight rating so you'll want to be aware of that number too. Might not hurt to add an anti-rattle device like part # e99007 into the mix too.

It worked great for me. I bolted a husky toolbox to it and filled it with tools and other equipment along with a pest control backpack sprayer . I also used it on my girlfriend’s jeep for our road trips. Definitely worth the money

I bought the non-folding for the added rigidity. I use it on my 36' rv for electric bikes. The hitch clamp also removes some slack. The carriers and bike racks will still have a little movement but after trying a couple of both folding carrier and bike racks I think the carrier works best. I also added 2 supports from rv frame to carrier which stiffened it as much as you can get. I'm very happy now and etrailer has been a great source and support. IMG_2392.HEIC

@Monte Thanks for sharing your experience, Monte. Going with the non-folding version for the added rigidity makes a lot of sense, especially when you're carrying heavier e-bikes on a larger RV. I also appreciate you pointing out that some movement is still normal and that adding additional supports helped stiffen everything up even more. Glad to hear you've got the setup dialed in and that it's working well for you.
