Updated 06/04/2026 | Published 05/29/2026

Question:

Hello, Wondering about a trailer light harness for a 2003 Montero Limited. See 2 options 1. the Hopkins Part HM11142365 2. Curtis C55380. The Hopkins is almost 3 times as much. is it really that much better? Live in Vermont lots of road salt and grime. Thanks for any info. Jason

Hi Jason,

The Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness w/4-pole flat part # HM11142365 is no longer available because the company that produced them is no longer in business. If there are any still available through other retailers, they're likely increased in price due to them not being manufactured anymore. I wouldn't say that Hopkins is better than Curt, I think their harnesses are very similar.

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness w/4-pole Flat part # C55380 is the best choice for installing a wiring harness on your 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Limited because it is a plug-in version that will install much more easily without splicing into your vehicle's wiring. It also has a built-in converter that will prevent any feedback between the vehicle and the trailer's lights.

What are you planning on towing with your Mitsubishi Montero?

Claire, Thank you for the response. I had a curt harness that came with the hitch it lasted three years and then started blowing fuses. I tow a boat and a utility trailer mostly. Sometimes the odd piece of rental equipment. I am working with an installer through your locator service. Be talking to Jordan at 1220 Auto in Saint Albans, Vt. Pretty sure they ordered a harness through you already. Thanks. Jason

@JasonB I'm glad you've got a shop that's able to help you get that installed! There are a few different things that could cause a harness to start blowing fuses, most are caused by a converter box failure or damage to the harness. This new harness has a one-year warranty, and since someone is installing it for you, you'll be able to take it back to them if there are any issues.
