Trailer Tire Recommendation for Tire Size ST235/85R16
Updated 06/15/2026 | Published 05/27/2026 >
Question:
Im looking for advice on tires for my 38 foot fifth wheel. Loaded it weighs 13.5K pounds. Im guessing I need load Range G tires to stay within a safe boundary. I currently run the Westlake CR960 tires, ST 235/85R16. They are now 5 years old and were purchased from you. Got any suggestions for replacements. I see there is a different Westlake tire out there now and the difference in price is much higher than the CR960 tire was and I see no difference in the tires. Any suggestions on a quality tire that will fit my campers needs?

Hey Walter, you are absolutely doing the right thing replacing your tires at 5 years as generally the lifespan of a trailer tire is 4-6 years. So what I would go with is the Provider HD part # TTWPRG235R16 instead as this is a Load Range of G like you are wanting while also having a higher speed rating of 81 mph over the Westlake you had and also costing less. Overall how did you like the CR960?

I have more questions about these tires. Do you still think this is the best tire for me and if so, are there any more wheel/tire combinations available other than what is on your website? How does the warranty for this tire compare to what is available for the westlake? I think I looked at the website of the manufacturer of the Provider tire and saw a different warranty than what I see on the etrailer site. I might be wrong on this. And the last question is there a way to be notified of the manufacture date of the tire before they ship?
