Troubleshooting Hydrastar Actuator Not Working with OEM Brake Controller 2025 Silverado

Question:

I HAVE A HYRADSTAR BRAKE ACTUATOR ON MY BOAT TRAILER, WHEN I HOOK IT TO MY 2025 CHEVY 2500 IT DOESNT WORK. WHEN I HOOK IT TO MY 2024 DODGE 3500 THEY WORK?

Hey Ronald, do you have an OEM brake controller in your Chevy truck? Its very common for OEM controllers to not like to work with electric over hydraulic actuators. Even ones that say they are compatible still can struggle.

We do have an adapter for this situation though with the part # HBA-CAM. If you wire this in everything will work fine as the OEM controller will think that standard electric brakes are being used.

I have that actuator on our boat trailer, works great on 2023 superduty but you do have to tell the truck that you are elec over hyd in dash menu. Has worked great for 2 seasons so far pulling 16k lb Intrepid.

@JayR that's a good point. You do typically have to put the controller into hydraulic mode for it to work.
