Do You Have a Baseplate for a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300?

Updated 05/23/2026 | Published 05/20/2026

Question:

I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300 imported from Japan that I want to flat tow behind a truck camper. I need to see if there is a mount that will fit. The closest thing I can see on your vehicle ion is a Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero, they are very similar and share a lot of parts. If you happen to know if the tow bar will fit my van I’d like to purchase it.

Unfortunately, Josh I do not have a custom fit baseplate kit that will fit a 1992 Mitsubishi Delica L300 but I have a potential solution. I checked with our vendors and no one makes anything for it, which is not surpising. This is common with foreign made vehicles that aren't distributed in the US.

My only option is the Blue Ox Universal Bolt-On Adapters # BX88266. They need to be bolted onto a flat metal surface. If you're using the bumper on your Delica L300 it may need to be reinforced.

The Blue Ox Universal Bolt-On Adapters # BX88266 will work with tow bars like the Blue Ox Alpha item # BX7380.

For a braking system you can use the Blue Ox Patriot item # BLU37TR you were looking at. It's compatible with almost every vehicle so it should have no problem working with your Delica L300.

For lights, I recommend the Roadmaster Universal Magnetic Tow Lights item # RM-2120. This will plug into your trailer and mount to the roof of your Delica L300. You won't have to cut into the factory wiring to install lights if you go this route.

What kind of truck camper do you plan on using to pull your Mitsubishi?

Jerred, Thank you very much for taking the time to go into a very detailed response and solution. I will have a look at the undercarriage and see if there is space to mount this on the frame or look into adding a beefed up bumper to mount the adapters to. I’m using a Ram 5500 with a Rugged Mountain Denali 3S truck camper. The other challenge we will face is the overhang of the camper on the rear over 3 ft. I need to make sure the van can be towed before I tackle the overhang problem. It may not be safe to flat tow a vehicle using a hitch extender.

@JoshuaH You're welcome! That's a big distance to cover as far as an extension. You're most likely going to have to use an extension like item # TLE1532. What year is your Ram 5500 and what hitch do you currently have on it?

It’s a 2023 Ram 60 inch cab to axel with a diesel engine. I have a CM skirted bed with a 2.5 inch hitch receiver built into the flatbed. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to swap out the bed for a non skirted flatbed and install my own receiver hitch to the frame that will accommodate a TorkLift receiver hitch. We made some mistakes in the initial purchase.
