Question:
My current RV ceiling puck light is recessed into the ceiling, but the lens measures about 4-1/2 inches across. Can I use this surface-mount RV Designer light instead?

Good question, Dale. The RV Designer # RD94SR is a surface-mount light, so it does not install the same way as a recessed puck light that sits down inside a ceiling cutout. The 4-1/2" measurement is the outside diameter of the light, not the hole size it fits into.
You may be able to use it if the old opening is small enough for the # RD94SR to cover and there’s still enough ceiling material around the opening to run the mounting screws into. If the recessed hole is too large, you would need to fill or modify that opening so the surface-mount light has something solid to attach to. You'd need a hold of about 3" or less for this one to have something for the mounting screws to grab onto.
If you don’t want to modify the ceiling, I’d look at the Gustafson 12V RV LED Puck Light # 277-000344 instead. That one is a 4-1/2" warm white recessed-mount LED puck light, so it’s a better style to compare against your existing recessed fixture.
Dale, what size is the actual ceiling cutout once the old light is removed? That measurement will tell us whether you can surface-mount over it or should stay with a recessed light.
