Hey Andrew, the manual override raise/lower feature of the Atlas IV Vaquero Self-Contained Hydraulic Trailer Jack # ST45FR works by basically manually cranking the hydraulic pressure in the system to push the inner jack leg up. Then manually lowering is just basically bleeding off the pressure to allow the jack to lower.

On the pump housing is an override port that you would crank to build the pressure and extend the jack.
