Replacement Air Conditioner That Holds Up Better In Travel Trailer That Goes Off-Roading A Lot

Published 05/06/2026

Question:

My trailer has ceiling vents, but it also sees a lot of rough gravel roads getting back to camp. I’m not worried about extra features. I just want the tougher option that fits a ducted RV. Also saw the ductless setup. not sure?

Hello Cole, for that kind of use, I’d recommend the Coleman-Mach Roughneck Mach 15 # CM65RR. If your air is routed through ceiling vents, you’re looking at the right style, because this is for ducted RV systems only. This does allow air to come out of the distribution box in the ceiling as well though, so that's a nice benefit of this model.

The Roughneck line is the one I’d choose when the trailer sees more vibration and rougher travel than a normal campground setup.

Since you asked about the other models, figured I'd say that if someone has a camper with no ceiling ducts and the air just blows out at the unit, that’s where a ductless system like # CM88RR or # CM68RR would make more sense instead. But since you said you do have ceiling vents, then you'd want the ducted version like # CM65RR. What RV model do you have?
