Best Solution to Help With Bounding in a 2016 Ford F-150 When Towing a Transcend 260 32 TT

Updated 05/11/2026 | Published 05/06/2026

Question:

I have a 2016 Ford F-150 towing a Transcend 260 32 travel trailer. I have the updated suspension on the camper and use a weight distribution hitch. I can send a pic if you want. When I go over rought roads - were talking hiways, not side roads - I get a tremendous amount of bouncing. in the truck. Its terrible. I know I cant get rid of that - I used to have a larger vehicle and a large 5th wheel so I am spoiled. My question is would one of those Curt RockerBall Cushion Hitch Trailer Ball help, and would it fit on my hitch. I dont know whether to approach this from a trucks shock perspective or a trailer hitch perspective. If you need any more info, let me know but I am looking for suggestions and you guys have been very helpful in the past. Thanks

Thanks for reaching out, Mark.

I can definitely understand what you’re describing, that “bouncing” feeling on rough roads can get old quick, especially coming from a larger truck set up.

You’re already off to a great start with a weight distribution hitch. What you’re feeling now is more of that up-and-down motion from the truck’s rear suspension under load.

For that, adding something like the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-47 is going to make the biggest difference. These help support the rear of the truck when you’re towing and do a great job of reducing that vertical bounce. They’re also a nice option since they don’t require maintenance and just work in the background.

As for the Curt RockerBall # C40047, that’s more helpful for reducing shock and vibration from starting and stopping, so more of the forward and backward “jerking” motion. It won’t do much for the up-and-down bounce you’re feeling on rough roads.

So between the two, the SumoSprings would be the better solution for what you’re experiencing.

What areas are your traveling the most through? We are in the Midwest and there are some roads I dread having to drive on because they are just so rough.

Thanks for the info. The blue ones are the lightest ones which means they should not stiffen the ride when not towing. That would be my concern. Thanks again, Mark

@MarkH The 1k's are a really dark blue color. Part # SSR-117-40 1k rating (dark blue) Part # SSR-117-47 1.5k rating (black) Part # SS95QR 3k rating (light blue)

I have mentioned this past post. I used the RAS on my springs for squat and handling under load and the sumo shocks (stops) for bumps under load. The sumo shocks work very well to stop from bottoming out hard and holding weight. Between the two it made an amazing difference. I did them at the same time for obvious reasons so it’s hard to tell you the one that made the most impact but together they helped a lot when pulling my large camper in my 2015 F150.

@DanD That's a really good combo. And if ever necessary, you can loosen the adjustment on the RAS or remove them pretty easily. Thanks for sharing how you been using the Sumo's and the RAS!
