Question:

I have a Snug Top Super Sport topper with the reinforced center. The reinforced area is 48” wide. I’m wanting to install the Yakima HD rails to the topper. If I put the rails out far enough so the screws don’t go thru the reinforced area, the rails will be very close to the edge where it starts to go over the edge, will this be ok.

Hey Troy, welcome back. I don't think that's going to work. The Yakima 60" HD Tracks for Roof Racks item # Y74MR are typically installed away from the edge of toppers for more support. This is so you're not putting excess pressure on the sides and corners.

I recommend checking with Snug Top and seeing where they suggest installing the rails on your topper. The pictures on their website show roof rack tracks installed a few inches in from the edge. They will be able to tell you if you are safe to drill through the reinforced area on your top. Most of the shells have a range area that is designed for adding the roof rails.

When you say very close to the edge, how many inches away are you talking?

The reinforced area is 48” wide. I’ve put in a question to Snug Top to see where they recommend mounting them. I can always buy longer screws to mount through the reinforced area.
