How To Mount Thule Hullavator Pro On 2026 BMW X5 50e

Updated 04/14/2026 | Published 04/07/2026

Question:

I just bought a 2026 BMW X5 50e and wanted to mount my Thule Hullavator Pro 898, which had been mounted on my 2022 Porsche Macan with 53 inch Thule Wingbar Evo cross bars. Both vehicles have flush mount rails. Thule said I cannot mount the Hullavator on the BMW because the 53 inch Wingbar Evo is not long enough and to mount a Hullavator on their next size up, which is 60 inches, requires at least 47 inches between the flush mounted rails which is wider than the BMWs width between the rails. Your website says that the 2026 X5 accommodates a 60 inch long 8000426 Yakima JetStream Crossbars with 8001635 Yakima Sightline Roof Rack Towers and 8006431 Custom SightClips and Pads. I called Yakima and asked if that configuration would accommodate the Hullavator but they said a they do not answer about competitor products and b the Yakima JetStream Crossbars on a 2026 BMW X5 does not accommodate their product called a Showdown, so they believe it would not accommodate a Hullavator. Would you be able to tell me if I could mount the Hullavator on this Yakima setup, or if you could recommend some other brand of crossbars that would? Thanks.

Hey Frank! I'm not sure why Yakima wouldn't commit to that but you can definitely use their JetStream bars with the Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898. The problem with the Thule crossbars is that the mounting channel underneath doesn't run the full length of the bar, so longer crossbars aren't always possible depending on where the feet sit. This is not a problem for Yakima.

The Yakima SightLine Roof Rack for Flush Rails - JetStream Crossbars # Y36KB is confirmed to fit your X5 50e. With the longer 60" crossbars you will have the 4" - 8" overhand required to use the Hullavator. I do recommend the JetStream rack, you can expect them to be quiet and perform just like your old WingBars. They also have push-down rubber strips so you don't have to trim anything if you mount accessories in the channels.

What kind of kayak are you carrying and where are you headed next?
