Does The Curt Base Plate C56JR Have a Weight Capacity Rating ?

What are the maximum weight capacities for the Curt Front tow base plate , Part Number: C56JR for a 2023 F 350. Thank you Sam

Hi Sam, that’s a really good question.

The Curt base plate part # C56JR doesn’t have a standalone weight capacity rating like a hitch would. Once it’s installed, it essentially becomes part of the truck’s frame, bolting directly into multiple points on the frame to spread the load. Because of that, it’s designed to match the strength of the vehicle it fits, in this case your 2023 F-350, rather than being the limiting factor on its own.

So the real limiting factors in your setup will be the tow bar, safety cables, and the overall flat towing system you’re using.

If you want, I can take a look at the tow bar and safety cables you’re planning to use and make sure everything is matched up correctly.

Where are you planning on towing the dinghy to?

Hello Heather The base plates will be mounted in a 2023 F350 Total weight 13,000 LB . The tow bar will be connected to a 2000 Freightliner XL Classic ( Custom Semi conversion) with a 2 1/2" receiver tube . I was thinking at least a 15,000lb tow bar ? Thank you Sam

@SamS Hi Sam, thanks for the extra details, that really helps. Stepping up to something like the Blue Ox Apollo part # BX7470 rated for 15,000 lbs is a solid call here. That gives you a comfortable margin over your truck’s weight and is designed for 2-1/2" receivers like what you have on your Freightliner. It’s also compatible with Curt base plates, so it’ll connect without needing anything unusual.
