Can The BTBRV Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer BTBRV39FR Be Used With A Weight Distribution Hitch?

Updated 10/28/2026 | Published 10/25/2026

Question:

I have a 2025 ram 2500. I have an Eaz-Lift WDH that I had for my f150. Would this sleeve adaptor be sufficient to reduce the hitch to fit my current WDH Shank or should I replace the shank? I adjusted the WDH for the new truck so replacing the shank would just be needed if it was better than the sleeve for long term use. We only tow our camper on long weekends but I heard negative things about the camco shank not being a snug fit.

Hey Brandon, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the BTBRV Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer Set # BTBRV39FR can absolutely be used with a weight distribution hitch. That will be an easy and cost-effective way of making your WD shank compatible with the hitch on your new Ram. As long as your existing shank and the WDH are properly rated for your trailer's loaded weight and tongue weight, this is a perfectly acceptable long-term solution.

What kind of camper do you haul?

Not only does the sleeve fit fairly snugly, the magnet is strong to keep the device in the receiver. A couple of times I failed to remove it when disassembling the hitch. Without a magnet, the device could easily have shaken loose on the road and been lost. No worries whatsoever. Highly recommend the part.

Yes, the hitch receiver reducer works very well with my weight distribution system. As mentioned in the previous comment, it does fit well, and the magnet is a great idea as it keeps the sleeve in place. Highly recommended.

Yessir. The adapter will work just fine with a WDH. The magnetic detail of the hitch adapter is what makes it snug. No rattle or movement from what I’ve seen so far.

It will work fine with weight distribution, used it in my F450 to go from the 3" hitch, down to a 2" shank on a WDH, good fit, no complaints
