Question:

2019 Suburu Impreza Sedan hitch and trike carrier maybe Curt Cargo carrier? for 90ish pound e-trike for elderly female. Hopefully, something that I can load and unload e-trike by myself. Is this even possible?

Hi Deb, I’m really glad you reached out because this is one of those setups where it’s important to get it right so everything stays safe and easy to use.

For your 2019 Subaru Impreza sedan, you’re limited to a Class I hitch like the Curt part # C11466, which has a lower weight capacity and uses a 1-1/4 inch receiver. Because of that, most trike carriers won’t work since they require a 2 inch hitch, and using an adapter to step up to 2 inches cuts your hitch capacity in half. With a 90 pound e-trike, that puts you over a safe working range, so I wouldn’t recommend going that route.

I also want to be upfront that even a cargo carrier with a ramp, while helpful for loading, would still run into the same weight limitations once you factor in the carrier itself plus the trike. On top of that, the Impreza sits fairly low, so ground clearance and stability become concerns when carrying that much weight at the rear.

I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for, but I’d much rather you have a setup that feels safe and manageable than something that’s borderline and stressful to use. If carrying the trike with your current vehicle is a must, the safer options would be looking at a small lightweight trailer or possibly a different vehicle setup that can handle a 2 inch hitch and higher tongue weight.

Where do you usually plan to load your trike, like in a garage or driveway? Is another vehicle to carry the trike an option?
