Why Would Go BluTech Filters Leak After Changing Them

Updated 03/24/2026 | Published 03/17/2026

Question:

Hi, I bought a BLU brand RV water filter and LOVE the quality of the water I ge from it. I finally went to change the filters. I watched the video I found online, worked on this for HOURS and cant get the canister housing to screw on without water leaking out at the seal. I am usually someone who can figure out such issues but am at a total loss of how to proceed. So Im reaching out to you for support. I cant be the only person who has experienced this

Hey Eileen, when this happens the issue is that the o-rings are either misaligned, dirty, or unlubricated. Did you make sure the o-ring was properly aligned and also use a silicone grease to ensure you got a proper seal? I also found a couple YouTube videos on preventing O-ring leaks I can send to you as well unless you've already seen them?

You might try cleaning the O-rings, seating them, lubricating them, and then hand thread them until flush.

I know nothing about lubricating the seals. It was not mentioned in any videos about changing the filters I watched. Any resources you have would be appreciated. Its very disappointing to me that simply changing filters is turning into such a big process

@EileenS I might have misspoke and was looking at wrong info on leaks from the filter system. Let me reach out to Go BluTech and see if I can get more info. I sent them an email just now and will let you know what I hear from them. Sorry for confusion!

@EileenS Hi Jameson, Is there any way you can ask this customer for a video demonstrating the leak? This well definitely provide me the best look at the issue itself, and will allow me to better answer. Essentially however, there are three reasons I can see this part leaking, and typically it is going to be one of these three reasons. 1. There is a gasket that is placed between the stainless steel canister and the black assembly head the canister is threaded onto. If this gasket is missing, or even scraped or has debris underneath it, the unit will leak where the canister threads to the assembly. I would ask this customer to review for this gasket ( I will attach a screenshot showing where this white gasket will be in the assembly head), make sure that is is present, and if present, remove and inspect it for any cuts, scrapes or debris that could be stuck to it, or left where the gasket was positioned. 2. The canister may simply need to be tightened a little further. There have been a customers that have reached out experiencing this, and this is something we have even experienced in our warehouse during assembly and testing, and sometimes all that is required is tightening the canister a little bit further. 3. The threads of the black assembly head may be cross-threaded or damaged. This is the more unlikely answer as this would be noticable and the customer probably would have reached out in regards to this issue. If this is the case, unfortunately, the correction would be a replacement of the black assembly head, however I am confident this is not the reasoning. Reasons one and two seem the most likely answers here. There is one way the customer can test these all to prove where the issue is occurring. If this customer takes the gasket out of the canister/assembly head they are experiencing the issue with, I would recommend to swap it with the same gasket from one of the other canisters in the 3-stage system. If the leak carries over to the other canister, and the original canister that was leaking is corrected, that would be a big indicator the issue is down to the gasket itself. If the leak continues at the same canister, than this would lead me to believe that damage to the threading/canister is more likely, and this would take a little further troubleshooting to resolve.

It is clear to me that I did not line up the seals as needed but I have no images of what it should look like. I'm hoping that whatever you send has some charts or images. Thanks
