Why Can't SumoSprings SS53UV Install on 2023 Ford F-150 with Self Adjusting Headlights

Updated 03/10/2026 | Published 03/07/2026

Question:

What is the issue with using the SS53UV when you do have self adjusting headlights? which i would expect many F150 owners with higher trim levels would have. The manufacturer states not for use with self adjusting headlights. I have a 2023 F150 Tremor.

Hey E, the issue is that the self adjusting headlights of your 2023 Ford F-150 rely on sensors located on the suspension to determine the angle of the vehicle. When SumoSprings # SS53UV are installed, they increase the ride height of the rear suspension. The auto-leveling system interprets this higher, more level ride height as the vehicle not having a load in the back, causing it to miscalibrate the headlights.

Because the springs prevent the rear from sagging when loaded, the sensor never triggers the headlight system to lower the beam, resulting in the headlights pointing too high and blinding oncoming traffic.

If the headlights are too high after installation, the system usually needs to be recalibrated using a diagnostic tool, or the suspension-mounted sensors may need to be adjusted to recognize the new, firmer ride height.
