What Is The Difference Between Red And Green Nozzles In The Fill-Rite Fuel Transfer Pump Kits?

Published 03/03/2026

Question:

I noticed one kit has a red nozzle and another has a green one. Does that mean the red one won’t work with diesel?

Mark, great question - the color is for identification, not a mechanical limitation.

The Fill-Rite # FR75XQ 115V 15 GPM includes a red-covered manual nozzle to clearly mark it for auto unleaded setups. The # FR35XQ 12V 20 GPM includes a green-covered manual nozzle typically used for diesel identification.

Both pumps themselves are compatible with:
-Diesel
-Gasoline
-Ethanol blends up to E15
-Biodiesel blends up to B20
-Kerosene
-Mineral spirits

The color just helps prevent fuel mix-ups in shared environments. I would pay more attention to the power type since the # FR35XQ is powered by a 12V battery. while the other is powered by AC power via a shop etc.

What type of fuel are you wanting to use? And what type of equipment?
