With a 40:1 ratio, how much cable is pulled in after 40 revolutions?

Hi Charles; the 40:1 ratio on the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL10970 means it takes 40 turns of the handle for one full drum rotation. One full drum rotation will pull approximately 4.71" of cable. As more cable layers build up, the diameter of the drum will increase slightly and so will the amount of cable per rotation.

I will use it to load a 600 pound log splitter on my trailer that has highway rated tires on it. I like the idea of the gears holding the load for safety verses a come along, but I have to move it 10'. It would take a really long time to move it that distance.
