Where Is Ball Center Located in Bed of 2025 Chevy Silverado to Install B and W Turnoverball

Updated 02/24/2026 | Published 02/23/2026

Question:

Is the hole on the 5th wheel hitch, kingpin with b and W standard rails more over the axel centerline, compared to if I buy the b and w gooseneck turn over? this is for a 2025 chevy Duramax 2500hd, I know the ball location is back behind the axel about 6-7 inches with the turn over, so just wondering if its the same with standard rails and kingpin location? or is it more over the axel with standard rails and hitch?

Hey Aaron, where did you see that the B and W Turnoverball that fits your 2025 Chevy Silverado 2500 has the hitch jaw center that far behind the rear axle? I checked the install instructions for the # BW45SR that fits your truck and the ball center will be 45-5/16 inches from rear edge of truck bed if it's a long bed or 37-1/8 inches if it's a short bed.

6 to 7 inches behind the rear axle of the truck would be too far back and would unweight the front axle which would cause issues.

I think u miss understood, what I'm trying to find out is if a standard 5th wheel hitch , say b and w patriot...if the hole for the king pin would be over the axel like normal or would it sit behind the axel like the turn over ball does..i know the new design for ball location was moved back a little.. so just trying to see if there is a significant difference.

@Aaron The Patriot rail kit would put the center of the hitch jaws above the rear truck axle.

@JamesonC Ok thank you..what about the turnover ball by bw? Dose it sit the ball behind the axel a little due to frame change from 2020+

@Aaron It does not. B and W is really thorough and smart with their engineering so they put the ball above the axle or slightly forward. Putting it behind the rear axle would be dangerous.
