Wiring Kit for Trailer Charge Circuit of Chevy Colorado with Thicker Wiring and Andersen Connectors

Updated 02/19/2026 | Published 02/18/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2021 Chevy Colorado and my charger in my trailer is drawing too much from the 12v accessory pin on the 7 pin plug for my truck. It’s drawing 25 amps, the truck is fused to 30 but the trailer wiring is tiny and getting hot. I wanted to get a 5th wheel style USCAR harness where I can plug it inline of the existing 7 pin but tap power and ground from what would be the 5th wheel 7 pin and run a dedicated Anderson style connector with heavier wire to the trailer charger. I can’t find something like that on your site and didn’t want to cut the factory wiring unless I absolutely have to. Thanks

Hey Bryant, yeah it definitely sounds like thicker wiring is the answer since your wiring is getting hot. Since you need thicker wiring and mentioned Andersen connectors what I would recommend would be a winch wiring kit that includes both of those things. I am not sure exactly what length you are looking for but we have kits like the part # BDW20307 which are 120 inches long as well as the part # BDW20305 which is 48 inch, and part # BDW20306 which is 96 inches long. About how long do you think you'll need?

Thanks Jameson. I’ve actually already got all the supplies to do the Anderson connector up but I wanted to see if there was something I could plug in between the existing harness on the truck and not have to hack into the factory harness

@BryantP oh I see what you mean. Like a USCAR connector to Andersen connector. There really isn't anything quite like that without having to try and piece something together.
