Roof Rack for Rooftop Tent on 2023 Toyota Sienna LE

Updated 02/19/2026 | Published 02/14/2026

Question:

Im looking to put a roof rack on my sienna LE that will hold a 89 lbs rooftop tent and two adults so in total about 400lbs static weight. I see most of the roof racks have a weight capacity of 165lbs. Does that mean they would not hold up the tent and adults?

Hey Cathy! The weight ratings listed for roof racks are always going to be the dynamic capacity. Roof rack manufacturers do not list the static capacity of their racks. I'm assuming you have the raised rails on your Sienna so the Yakima TimberLine Roof Rack # Y72GD (Silver) or # Y39YD (Black) you were looking at is a good option.

Roof racks can get pretty loud on the Sienna, so if you plan to keep it on without the tent you want a good set of crossbars to keep that down. The JetStream bars are the quietest around and what I would be using if I didn't have the factory rack on my Sienna.

A rooftop tent like the Yakima SkyRise HD # Y92QD requires a rack that mounts on raised rails, flush rails, or fixed mounting points and a roof/rack capacity of 165 lbs. The Yakima TimberLine Roof Rack meets these requirements. I would double check your specific tent requirements just to be sure you can use the tent on the Sienna.

Where are you headed once you get the roof rack and tent installed?
