Economical Leveling Jack Recommendation for Ambulance with Drill Option

Updated 02/19/2026 | Published 02/12/2026

Question:

Hello, I have a 2002 FL60 American LaFrance Medic Master Ambulance that I am looking to get a leveling solution for. I am looking for the most economical solution that is still powered. ie. with a drill or mechanical assist. What would you recommend? And if its a drill version - is there a certain tech spec of drill I should be looking for that would work better than others?

Hey Michael, so scissor jacks are going to be the most economical solution for leveling your ambulance when parked like the # JSC-30 and then for a drill attachment to make raising and lowering them easier you would just need the part # SC83TR and you'd be set. The faster the drill speed the faster it will operate them but you don't need anything special.

These come down really quickly, so don't look for a special drill. I *would* recommend an impact drill, though. These work well and I'm happy with them.

@Bob great advice! An impact would be a great choice.

These jacks work well for me. I also recommend a battery impact wrench. In addition, for my trailer, I used saveajack.com brackets to easily remove these jacks when not needed on the road to avoid tearing them off on curbs and low clearance situations.

@Jay Glad to hear the jacks work out well for you! However while a battery powered drill is safe, a battery impact will damage the jack screw over time due to the hammer like function of an impact. I would recommend swapping to using a drill instead or you will eventually run into future issues.

Mike I thought laFrance quit building emergency equipment in the '80's and went to just garbage trucks. Any way, I have not been able to use these jacks yet. They are built like a auto jack for changing tires so they should work well.

They are quite a bit sturdier than the ones that came with the unit. Easy to install had it done in about 90 minutes. I am very happy with these.
