Can I Replace Dometic 15K BTU AC Unit With Furrion Chill Cube AC?

Updated 02/18/2026 | Published 02/11/2026

Question:

I currently have a dometic 15K a/c system on my camper. It went out at the end of last summer, I was thinking of upgrading to the furrion chill cube 18K. I know they air distribution box has to be changed, but is there any wiring that needs to be changed, or does the 15k and 18K use the same size wire and circuit breaker. I know you guys used to sell a adapter harness for the thermostat to work, but for some reason I can Find it. Do you still make that?

Hello Josh, thanks for reaching out. You can replace your 15K BTU Dometic AC unit with a Furrion Chill Cube, but it will mean replacing the rooftop unit, distribution box and thermostat. There is no adapter harness for this. That said, you should not need to change out any of the existing wiring or circuit breakers. The Chill Cube 18K unit draws similar current to other 15–18K units, so you do not have to up-size the wire or breaker if your existing setup is correct and in good condition. So you will just need to choose from the following options based on if your system is ducted or ductless:

- Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w Air Distribution Box, Thermostat - Ducted - 18,000 Btu - White # FR69TD

- Furrion Chill Cube RV Air Conditioner w Air Distribution Box - Ductless - 18,000 Btu - White # FR59TD

What kind of camper do you have? Is it a ducted or ductless system?

Ducted, but I have a 5th wheel and a 2nd a/c, so what your saying is I will need to replace both units to be able to use the thermostat, correct. I thought there used to be a harness to adapt to the thermostat, or am I thinking of a different company?

@Josh You might be thinking of the Furrion Adapter Wiring Kit for Coleman, Dometic, or Advent Air RV AC Units - R32 part # FR67AD. This is made for the Furrion Chill HE units, and will not work with the 18K Chill Cube. Also, in full honesty, those adapters are not dependable at all and in a lot of cases they just don't work. The 18K Chill Cube per Furrion requires its own dedicated distribution box and thermostat. I have heard of people using universal thermostats and making things work, but I have also heard cases of the 18K unit not working with certain other brands so doing the Furrion thermostat is what I recommend. The kits I mentioned above come with the wall thermostat and handheld remote control.

Josh, I bought a Chill. It will not operate the furnace and A/C both at the thermostat unless Furrion came up with a fix. I had to eliminate the distribution box in the chill and use 2 thermostats. You would think they could create a replacement for the cost. The roof top unit will not supply enough 12v to thermostat to run furnace.

The 18K cube i purchased for my 1 a/c unit, 36ft 5th wheel was beyond my expectation with ease of installation and the massive amount of air it pushed. the old roof top a/c was trashed and condenser plugged with years of black paste. re-building this camper has been a project! the remote provided did all the work for me and i did not use the extra hard wire thermostat with the installation. I hooked in the power wires and pushed the start button on the remote, i did not even hear the unit start, progressively it started and continued to blow so hard dust was blowing out the ductwork throughout the camper vents and was not even on turbo mode! i'm impressed and have a feeling it will work well in the hot AZ summers! those of you with two units, you may want to consider replacing both units!

@DonS Don, thank you so much for taking the time to share this! I love hearing that the 18K Chill Cube exceeded your expectations. It sounds like that old unit had definitely seen better days. Dust blowing out the vents is definitely a good sign. I'm sure it'll make those Arizona summers much more tolerable. Safe travels! Come back anytime you need anything!
