How Do PopStep Covers Compare To Rug Covers For OEM Lippert Steps On Camper?

Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/11/2026

Question:

We camp at the beach and our current step rugs trap sand like crazy. Are these easier to clean? I think my steps are OEM lippert.

Hey there Danielle, that’s one of the biggest differences with PopStep.

Carpet-style rugs are designed to trap debris - which means they also hold sand, water, and mud inside the fibers.

PopStep covers are flexible PVC, so debris stays on the surface. You can:
-Wipe them off
-Hose them down
-Remove them within seconds to clean or store them in the included bag.
-Twist them to crack off ice in winter

If you’ve got Lippert steps and they are 24 inch wide steps, you’d be looking at # PS27UR 2-step or # PS87UR 3-step. For 20 inch wide steps, # PS99UR 2-step or # PS39UR 3-step.
Let me know if you have a different brand step or different size and I'll see if PopStep offers a solution or not!

Are you primarily camping off-grid in sandy/muddy conditions? I'm usually at a campsite; maybe I need to venture out more haha.

Yes mostly beach camping in Gulf Shores and Destin. The rugs work fine but I don't like how they retain sand and water.

@Danielle That makes sense! The carpet ones definitely have their place, but some prefer the pcv flexible ones that are easy to remove and clean.
