Recommended Air Bags for 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi

Updated 01/26/2026 | Published 01/22/2026

Question:

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi 3.2 gear ratio quad cab I hope that is enough info! I want to be towing a 5th wheel trailer with a in bed hitch. As I understand it there are only two options regarding adding air bags. 1 F2595 and 2 F4185 What I want to know is the pros and cons of using either of these. I appreciate your answer, John

Hey John,

I'd be happy to lay it out for you! Truthfully, they are similar in a lot of ways. They will both level out your ride and make it a lot more comfortable.

For the Firestone Coil-to-Air-Spring Conversion Kit # F2595, the main advantage is the 3,000-lb capacity, but I looked up your truck's capacity and it maxes out at 1,830 lbs. The air bag capacity does not increase your vehicle's capacity, it just levels out your ride. So, these are overkill for your setup. A con to these bags is the installation process. It's pretty involved having to remove the factory coil springs to replace them with the air bags.

Now, the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4185 cap out at 2,000 lbs which is less but it covers any load within your truck's capacity. Plus, the install is a lot easier sliding them into your existing coil springs.

I recommend going with the Coil-Rite Air Bags # F4185. You'll need to run air lines to either setup, but the install is going to be a lot simpler for you with these ones.

Do you have an air compressor already? If you don't, then check out # F58XV. It's those same Coil-Rite Air Bags with Firestone's Easy Mount Compressor.

Hello, I had the F4185 professionally installed on my 2014 Ram 5.7, 3.21, crewcab. It took them about 2.5 hours for the install. My purpose was to eliminate rear end sag on my truck while towing a bumper pull trailer with a heavy tongue weight. It was NOT to add ability to my carry weight (7800Ibs) Self install can be done but I was traveling at the time and they had a lift. The air bags worked very well and I was happy with them. This is my second set since 2016 . The first set was damaged by a professional mechanic while trying to fix an air leak in the hose, otherwise they have held up nicely. The bags eliminate my vehicles rear end sag. Just a word. Don't know what your planned size/weight of your 5th wheel is going to be....Have I seen 1/2 ton trucks (2) towing fifth wheels? Yes .... it can be done. .....but.... unless it is very small and light weight (don't believe listed weights, gotta weigh it), I would be hesitant to pull one with my 1/2 Ram....bags or not. Just my opinion after owning/driving my Ram for 10 years.

@Phil that's great insight! Sorry to hear about the first set being damaged, that would be frustrating after taking it to a professional. Making sure your 5th wheel falls within your truck's towing capacity is very important. Just to add on to your point about weighing your 5th wheel instead of believing listed weights: load your trailer with what you expect to take on your trip to find the most accurate weight.
