Can Specialty Recreation RV Bathtub Support A 215 lb Adult Standing Inside?

Updated 01/23/2026 | Published 01/20/2026

Question:

The replacement RV bathtubs, are they strong enough to support a 215lb adult while standing inside? I want to be sure it will not crack while standing and showering

Hello Jacques, thanks for reaching out. That’s a very fair question, and you’re smart to think about it before installing the tub.

Yes, the Specialty Recreation RV Bathtub # SR33RR is strong enough to support a 215 lb adult standing inside it, provided it’s installed correctly. These RV tubs don’t have a published weight rating because the strength of the setup depends more on how the tub is supported underneath than on the tub shell itself. When the bottom of the tub is fully supported by the subfloor and framing (and not left spanning or floating), it will easily handle your weight plus the water load during normal shower use.

The key to avoiding cracks is making sure the tub is solidly supported across the entire base. This is exactly how your original tub was installed from the factory, and since this is a direct replacement for your Jayco, it’s designed to be supported the same way. As long as the subfloor is in good shape and the tub is set down flat and secured properly, you will be able to stand and shower without worrying about flexing, cracking, or leaks.

Yes, we've had it with continuous use for 4 months and while we're slighter lighter, we've had no issue with it showering or bathing and it's showing no signs of stress. The foam on the bottom likely absorbs minor imperfections and means it's well supported across the entire base underneath it. I think the only issue you would have would be if the floor underneath wasn't solid and in which case you'll want to fix that first to ensure it has a solid base to rest on.

@Peter Thanks for following up and sharing that, Peter. Four months of regular use with no issues is great to hear, and your point about the foam base helping distribute weight is spot on. I also appreciate you mentioning the floor support underneath. That’s really the key factor with these tubs, and fixing any soft spots first makes all the difference long-term. Solid feedback that’ll definitely help others going into the same install.

Yes. They will hold 215 and probably 300 as long as there is no Aqua Arobics!

@AndyO Hahaha nice! Yes, I would agree these tubs are not aqua aerobics approved. Hey, it's a free country though lol You do make a solid point though. Its a good idea to treat really anything inside the RV gently and do your best not to abuse it. The tub will hold up just fine with proper installation normal use. Thanks for pointing that out and for taking the time to share!

This is the same tub that came OEM with my 2021 Starcraft Travel Trailer. It is literally the same part number. I fluctuate between 240 and 230 lbs. and the tub stood up to regular use for about 5 years. I ordered this to replace the original tub because it had cracked near the drain. The tub would never had cracked if the installers had properly installed it when my trailer was built. The support structure they installed underneath the tub left at least a 6" x 6" gap between the drain and where the support structure started providing support for the tub. There was a much too big U-shaped cutout for the drain. This meant that if you were standing underneath the shower head, your feet were on a small section of the tub which had no support due to the large U-shaped cutout. When I installed it, I built a new support with much smaller gap between the drain and the plywood top of the support structure.

@JoeG Really appreciate you laying all of that out, Joe. That’s a great real-world example of how the tub itself isn’t the weak link, it all comes down to how it’s supported underneath. Five years of regular use says a lot about the tub when it’s installed correctly. Good call rebuilding the support with a tighter opening around the drain. That oversized U-shaped cutout is exactly the kind of thing that leads to stress and cracking over time. Its actually somewhat of a common issue with certain camper builds. Thanks again for sharing all that. Solid info that’ll help others avoid the same issue when replacing or reinstalling one of these tubs.
