Hey Stuart, yes the Carr LD Custom Side Steps part # CARR114031 that you referenced could install between the front of the bed and wheel well to provide access to the bed like you asked about. This is a universal type step setup so this would work just fine. Do you have a tool box in the bed of your truck that you are wanting to access?

Looking under the truck in front oh the wheel well. It seems the only place the step could be fastened is the outer fender/rocker panel. The frame is about 15” away. Is this correct? 2017 gmc 3500 Denali

@StuartJ Yeah the rocker panel would be where you'd need to install it if the frame is that far away. I assume there isn't an area where you want the step that has a place to mount the step though? Maybe a set of wheel well to wheel well tube steps would be a better choice? I know it's a lot more money but we have that with part # 21-534605. Or something like the part # W56TQ.
