Does Transmission Cooler Need Temperature Bypass for 2017 Mercedes GLE400

Question:
Can I put a transmission cooler on 2017 mercedes gle400 with 9spd transmission. Need a thermostatic bypass 180 degrees... I think. Transmission is temperature sensitive. Is there a recommendation? How to install? Thanks

Hey Thomas, this a great question but you do not need a thermostat bypass for your transmission fluid to allow it to heat up to a certain temperature before allowing it to cool. Unlike engines the transmission doesn't really need to get up to an operating temperature before it functions well. Basically you can't overcool transmission fluid (within reason).

Hey Thomas, how did things go with adding the transmission cooler to your GLE400? I'm curious if the setup worked well without the thermostatic bypass. Your update could make it easier for others working on a similar transmission.
