Question:
I have a ford f450 4x4 with 8ft bed, I am having a slight issue with vertical bed rails clearance I currently have the following set up- MORryde Cushioned 5th Wheel Pin Box for Trailers Over 18K w/ Lippert 1621SHD Trailair Coupled to the BandW puck system fifth wheel hitch. I am considering switching to a gen y executive 5th wheel gooseneck coupler. My question is will this increase my vertical bed rails clearance, or could you offer a solution that will? The trailer is a DRV fullhouse lx455, GTW 24000lbs

Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out. Switching from your MORryde pin box to the Gen-Y Executive gooseneck won’t automatically give you more bed-rail clearance. Both pin boxes use the same bolt pattern and ride in roughly the same vertical space, so you don’t really “gain” height by swapping. Sometimes the Gen-Y sits a touch different, but not enough to treat it as a fix.
That said, the correct Gen-Y Executive hitch for your camper is the following:
- Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621HD - 30K GTW - 6.5K TW # GY95GR
The real way to get more clearance is by adjusting what you already have. Raise the hitch head on your B&W hitch to the highest setting, or drop the pin box a set of holes, and recheck your rail clearance. Ideally you want around six inches. If you still don’t have enough, then the fix comes from the trailer side with a suspension lift or taller hangers.
The Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit # RR23QX can be used to add 1-1/4" of lift to a tandem axle trailer with leaf spring suspension. Or you can use the # RR55QX kit for 2-1/4" of lift.
About how much lift are you thinking you need?

Thank you so much, I never thought of raising the trailer. I will try this trailer alignment kit, because I already have the B&W at the highest setting.
