Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 12/04/2025

Question:

I flat tow a 2020 jeep wrangler behind my class A motorhome. It is a Curt base plate with Curt tow bars. Would like to know my options for some rock protection for my jeep as we are planning an Alaska trip. Something that would fit my current setup Thanks Darrell

Hey Darrell, thanks for reaching out. For your 2020 Wrangler with a Curt base plate and Curt tow bar, you’ve got a couple "rock solid" rock-protection options that will work with your current setup. The easiest add-on is a tow-bar-mounted shield like the Blue Ox KarGard # BX8870, which mounts right to the arms of your tow bar and creates a barrier that stops rocks and road debris before they reach the Jeep. It’s compatible with the Curt RV-mounted style tow bars and is a popular choice for long trips.

You can also add protection at the source by installing hitch-mounted mud flaps on the back of your Class A, such as the Rock Tamers Heavy-Duty, Adjustable Mud Flap System # ERT00108. They catch the big stuff before it ever gets launched toward the Jeep, and they’re fully adjustable and removable. For long trips, a lot of RVers run both a rear mud-flap system and a tow-bar shield together, giving you the best overall coverage on rough roads.

Hey Darrell, how did your rock protection setup work out for the Wrangler on your Alaska trip? Did the KarGard shield or the Rock Tamers give you the coverage you were hoping for? Your update could make it easier for others planning long drives with a similar setup.
