Does The P&F Ladder Rack For Enclosed Trailers Have A Weight Limit?

Updated 12/16/2025 | Published 12/02/2025

Question:

Does the PF69VR have any sort of built-in load rating? I didn’t see one listed anywhere, which worries me a little.

Good eye, Chris - it feels odd at first, but it’s actually normal for enclosed-trailer roof racks like the # PF69VR. They don’t publish a weight rating because the rack itself isn’t the limiting factor - the trailer’s upper side railing structure is the limiting factor.

Every cargo trailer uses different construction (steel rail, aluminum rail, wood-backed rails, varying thicknesses). Since the # PF69VR mounts using a 6 inch × 2 inch bracket you drill into yourself, P&F can’t predict what structure you’re tying into or how much it can safely hold. That’s why they leave the hardware choice and load decisions to the installer. Normally some heavy duty sheet metal screws are what people use for things like this.

What type of trailer do you have, and what size is it?

If there’s no weight rating, how do I know I’m not overloading the rack with ladders?

@Tyler Since enclosed trailers use different wall and rail materials, the safe load depends on your trailer’s structure, not the rack. Most contractors haul extension ladders, A-frames, PVC, and trim boards without issue because those loads are well within what a trailer’s header rail can support. You can try reaching out to the trailer manufacturer, or I can do some looking into it if you tell me what trailer you have.
