Can Aluminum Transition Plate Be Bolted To Toy Hauler's Steel Ramp?

Updated 11/26/2025 | Published 11/19/2025

Question:

We have a toy hauler with a steel ramp. Can the aluminum plate be bolted directly to that or do I need spacers?

Hey Sheila - you can bolt the # M348FR aluminum plate right to your ramp, no spacers needed. Just make sure to use stainless hardware to prevent galvanic corrosion between the aluminum and steel surfaces. I'd also recommend throwing some rust-preventive paint on the steel and hardware parts when putting the plate on your steel ramp.

What type of trailer is it, and what do you normally haul? This will definitely help prevent things from getting caught on the ramp door edge/lip and prevent tripping.

It’s a Forest River XLR Nitro. Mostly hauling e-bikes and a small generator.

@Sheila Nice setup, Sheil; those are super nice toy haulers! For e-bikes and a genny, the aluminum # M348FR is a great fit. Stainless hardware will keep everything clean, and with those cargo weights you won’t see any flex. You’ll appreciate the smoother entry with the smaller generator wheels too.
