Can I Leave Snow Plow On My Jeep All Winter, Or Should I Remove It?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 10/21/2025

Question:

Can I leave the plow on my Jeep through the season, or should I take it off between storms?

Sarah, it’s best to remove it between uses. Even the lighter HomePlow # ME88FR adds about 250 lbs out front, and that constant load can weaken the springs on smaller SUVs and half ton pickups. It also can rust and get weathered if left out all year round. Meyer designed it so you can disconnect in minutes - no tools required.

If your Jeep sits nose-down with the plow attached, a Timbren front helper kit will keep it level and reduce strain on your front suspension. You’ll find your Jeep’s exact front hitch and helper springs in our FitGuide; let me know if you need help!

Makes sense. Is there any harm in leaving the receiver mount installed even if I take the plow off?

@Sarah Not really, Sarah. You can leave the receiver mount on year-round. It won’t hurt anything; just keep the hitch opening capped with a plug to keep salt and dirt out. I do still recommend removing though, because it can stick out a bit and be harder to park in a garage or parking lot, and it's an obstacle waiting to be tripped over or bumped into.
