Fix Loose Steering After Alignment On 2016 Jayco Precept 31UL On Ford F-53 Chassis

Published 10/07/2025

Question:

I’m the second owner of a 2016 Jayco Precept 31UL on an F-53 chassis. The steering feels loose even after an alignment. Would the ST88MR fix that, or do I need suspension work first?

Tim, the Safe-T-Plus # ST88MR can’t correct worn steering parts, but once you’ve confirmed your ball joints, drag link, and tie rods are tight, this stabilizer will take out that last bit of wander. They normally won't do an alignment if parts are damaged/worn, so I assume all of that is good to go!

Think of it as the “finishing touch” after the alignment - it maintains straight-ahead pressure, so the wheel naturally stays centered instead of drifting.

If your tech said everything checks out mechanically, go for it. It’s a big difference, especially on the 31-foot coaches that catch more side wind. When you get it installed, let us know how much improvement you notice - that feedback helps other Precept owners decide too.
