Troubleshooting 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Curt Wiring Fuse Keeps Blowing
Updated 10/02/2025 | Published 09/30/2025 >
Question:
I installed the curt t connector to a 2022 Mitsubishi outlander The stock connector with the kit was faulty and the ground pin fell out immediately when just pulling the dust cover off. I couldn’t wait for a replacement so I spliced a 4 pin connector that I got from Lowe’s. The connector works when testing it, but the fuse blows within a day. I have replaced the fuse three times. It does not blow immediately but it does blow even when no trailer is connected. I purchased all new heat shrink butt connectors and made sure all connections are secure. I moved the ground wire to a new location that is more secure and tighter against the frame. What else can I check to see why the fuse keeps blowing?

Hey Jeremy, good job with the splice in - it looks great!
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C43WR fuse will blow if the ground is bad, or if the power wiring is messed up somewhere along the line. If your new ground is a better connection, then odds are your power wire is damaged or not secure somewhere.
Try checking the power line and let me know what you find!

Hi Jon, I checked the power cable and didn’t see anything issues. I moved the ground cable again just to be sure and tested all the spots that were crimped to be sure they’re secure by tugging on them and theyre not loose. New fuse today blew with no trailer plugged in. I’d upload additional photos here but I don’t see an option for that.
