Using Larger Drain To Repair Cracked Shower Pan

Updated 10/23/2025 | Published 09/21/2025

Question:

Hi all, I have a 2013 3150RL Keystone Montana 5th wheel with a neo-angle shower. The drain has a small crack around it about 1/16” away from drain assembly. I was looking at your part LaSalle Bristol RV Shower Drain w/ Grid Strainer - 1-7/8 Diameter - Parchment Part Number: 34465PR227G. Could I just make the pan hole a touch larger to get rid of the crack and use this drain without replacing the entire shower pan? It might not be in the molded beveled pan edge if I use this larger drain. What do you guys suggest? It seems like the white board insulation under the pan is compressed too much, not giving the support for the pan. A inch or more around the drain has no support around it so obviously it was made to crack in a sense. Honest opinions would be appreciated. Thank you, Brad Z.

Hello Brad, thanks for reaching out. If you are able to enlarge the drain hole, installing a slightly larger drain like the # 34465PR227G is a good solution for this. That way you can get rid of the crack without replacing the whole shower pan. The drain not sitting on the beveled pan edge shouldn't be a big deal as long as everything is properly installed and sealed. It is pretty typical for there to be a lack of support under RV shower pans so the only advice I can offer for that is to tread carefully and try not to step on the drain.

Hey Brad, how did things turn out after you enlarged the hole and used the LaSalle Bristol shower drain? Your results could really help others dealing with cracked pans and weak support under their drains.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, I have not had a single chance to get this shower pan issue fixed as of yet. I will be more than happy to share how I went about the fix asap. Meanwhile for thoughts, I’m going to remove the whole shower, remove the factory white foam board from the subfloor and replace it with a stiffer insulation foam type board for better support.

@BradZ Ok no worries just thought I'd check in. Definitely a good idea to address the whole subfloor situation. Let me know how it goes. Or feel free to reach out to me anytime you need anything!
