Can TMPS Booster Be Used When Trailer Does Not Have A Battery?

Updated 09/24/2025 | Published 09/14/2025

Question:

I was looking at the Tire-Minder Tire Pressure Monitor. The one in the video uses a signal booster that connected to the battery in the RV. I would be using it on a horse trailer which does not have a battery. Is there a product which either does not use a signal booster, or uses one which has its own battery?

Hello Caroline, good question. All of the tire pressure monitoring systems we offer include a booster of some kind, and the booster must be used in order to ensure the system will work properly.

That said, if your trailer doesn't have a battery, you can install the booster on the truck. You will want to either mount the booster in the bed, or better yet, underneath attached to the frame. This would have the best signal to the TPMS sensors.

The TireMinder i10 TPMS for RVs and Trailers w/ Signal Booster # TM89FR will work great for this. It comes with four sensors, but more can be added if needed.

Hi, Jess That was very useful. But...I was just reading the specs and found this.... Note: Not designed for use on low pressure rubber valve stems rated for less than 65 psi. My tires hold 50 lbs. Does this mean this is not the product for me? Caroline

@CarolineO You can still use a TPMS system you just would need to replace the rubber valve stems with a metal valve stem like part # AM20906.
