Cushioned Pin Box Recommendation for Camper with Lippert Rhino Box

Updated 09/29/2025 | Published 09/10/2025

Question:

I am looking to upgrade my pin box but have a lighter couples fifth wheel dry weight of 8k and hitch weight of 1500 so is the one with the front shock over kill and would be just as well off with the cushioned one at half the price?

Hey James, for your fifth wheel camper that has a Rhino pin box and is on the lighter side I would go with a cushioned pin box that has an air spring in it so that you can tailor exactly how much support you use as this will allow for a much better ride quality. For that the Flex Air part # LC65VR would be a great option. What fifth wheel hitch do you have?

None of the other styles would have a low enough capacity range to work well for you.

Hey James, did you decide to go with the cushioned pin box with the air spring for your fifth wheel camper? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others looking for a smoother ride with a similar setup.
