Jerky Brakes on a Boat Trailer

Question:
My trailer with 21 ft 3500lb -4000lb boat. It is very jerky on take off no matter how gently I take off.. It is like the brakes dont release. Thank you!!!

Hey, John!
That doesn't sound very pleasant. Lets see what we can find out. Most boat trailers have surge brakes so I'll list some troubleshooting steps for that brake type.
- Jack up the trailer and spin each wheel by hand—check if brakes are dragging.
- Inspect the surge brake coupler and ensure it slides smoothly.
- Check brake fluid level and condition.
- Verify the coupler fits tightly on the hitch ball.
