If Using Heavier Gauge Wire For Longer Run to Blazer Off Road Light is Current Wiring OK

Updated 09/09/2025 | Published 09/02/2025

Question:

2018 John Deere 4052r this light draws 6 amps going to mount the light on rops which is about 27 feet from battery, have to use 12 gauge wire because of the distance and heat, what is the gauge wire on the light and will I be able to change it out to 12gauge wire? Thanks

Hey Stewart, you won't need to upgrade the wiring of the Blazer LED Off Road Light Bar part # BL53VR. As long as you have the heavier gauge wire for the longer run to get the amperage to the light the thinner gauge wire that the light has would be okay from that point. Basically it would be like you wired this up to a lot shorter of wire since you will be using the thicker wire.

So if I run 27 feet of 12 gauge wire from battery to light and wire into the light bar which is 18 or 16 gauge wire that thin wire is not going to get hot and catch on fire?

@Stewart No it would not. You'd be totally fine.
