Looking For Simulated King Pin Or Rubber Dummy King Pin For 5th Wheel Hitch Maintenance

Updated 09/05/2025 | Published 08/31/2025

Question:

I need a simulated king pin .. or dummy king pin .. So I can do the maintenance on my Curt A16. I cant get to the zerk fittings unless the jaws are closed. I cannot find one on your website, but, in your videos you use one all the time. Thanks.

Hey Gus, thanks for reaching out. We actually get this question more often than you would think. I am familiar with the dummy king pin you mentioned. It is still floating around our shop here somewhere and we only have one. I wish I had a better answer for you, but I have no idea where it came from. I even went and talked to several of my associates who have been around etrailer forever and even they don't know. It is possible one of our vendors brought it as a sample. It was never a product we carried or sold here. Even looking around elsewhere online I am not seeing that any comparable product exists.

As far as a solution for you, the only thing I can think of would be to take a forged king pin plate like part # 337KP20031. Maybe take one of those and modify the top plate to allow access to the grease zerks.

Thanks. I was also thinking of getting one of those. I don't think I would need to modify the top plate as the zerks are on the front of the jaws. But .. which one of these would fit a CURT A16 ??? Thanks for the answer. Gus

@GusG The # 337KP20031 I mentioned above will work with your Curt A16, or any other 5th wheel hitch. The kingpins are a standard size. Any of the weld-on kingpins we offer would work, I just recommended the one with the thinnest plate since I was thinking you might need to cut it.
